Welcome and Hello Internet Peoples

So, this is my first post on here. I think I better make it a little bit about me and what I do, so here goes:

I'm a 30 year old guy living in the UK and I've been a geek and a gamer all my life. I am lucky enough to have a wonderful wife who lets me play my 'silly games' as she puts it and I love her for that, as for what games I play that's a loooooong list. I enjoy both computer games and tabletop games as well as card games (I used to be an avid poker player when I was younger), my favorite types of games are role playing games. I grew up playing Doom and Quake and have always preferred co-operative play and competitive play (mostly cos I suck at games!) so I've never been into COD or MW. I do like the current surge in sandbox/survival games (I'm a big minecraft and terraria player). My current games I'm playing are Skyrim (big fan of fallout series) and Don't Starve (on steam).

In terms of setting I am a huge Sci-Fi fan, I have never really liked the fantasy setting. Thats not to say I don't like the fantasy setting, I enjoy playing skyrim and I'm just reading up on D&D 3.5 but a game in a fantasy setting has to be really fun regardless of the setting to interest me, a fun game in a sci-fi setting I will always enjoy more. The biggest example of this is that I have never seen any of the Lord of The Rings films or the Hobbit ones and I have no intention of watching them because the setting doesn't interest me (I know a geek who doesn't like LoTR!).

So this blog will mainly be about my experiences with tabletop gaming, specifically Role-Playing Games. I was never into D&D (partly because of the setting) and never really played any RPG's until a few years ago as they were all set in fantasy universes that I didn't know, but a couple of friends introduced me to Dark Heresy which is set in the Warhammer 40K Universe. Having grown up playing games workshop games in the 40K universe this was a setting that I knew and loved, to me the 40K universe is an amazing setting with so many possibilities that I found it a really interesting setting. So I started to get into RPG's and at first it was difficult because, as I found over my time playing RPG's, its not really a 'game' and you don't actually play to win. RPG's are more about collaborative story telling and having fun than being the winner/loser, and this fact  has meant that I have grown to really enjoy playing RPG's.

So I played Dark Heresy for a few months with a group of friends and then life got in the way an we sort of stopped. A few years later another friend independently discovered Dark Heresy and wanted to start up, so I volunteered to GM the game as I was the only one who had played before. After a few short campaigns and few false starts we finally settled on a group of 6 of us who wanted to setup a regular gaming night, we first started with another 40K set RPG called Only War which runs on the same set of rules as Dark Heresy with another friend GMing, once that was done we've now switched back to Dark Heresy with me GMing for a while and once we've finished the campaign we might move to Rogue Trader or possibly D&D but we have to learn D&D cos none of us have played it at all.

So there you have it. That's where I am at now, currently GMing a fun Dark Heresy campaign which I have written myself (it was a nice challenge to create the storyline) and the posts on here will relate some of the fun times and interesting occurrences that I've had. I may from time to time post other non-gaming related blogs if I feel a need to rant and rave but the title of each blog will tell you what its about so you can skip the uninteresting ones!

If you have any comments or suggestion feel free to leave them below and I'll probably ignore them. :-p
